Summer is here and in South Florida that only means one thing – the warm weather will be getting warmer! That summer heat could do some serious damage to your grass. That is, unless you have artificial grass. If one of your home improvement projects this summer includes making the switch to synthetic turf at a personal residence, then you have landed on the right page! With 26 years of experience, Synthetic Turf International of Jupiter is here to help provide you with tips to review and consider before making your turf selection.
TURF APPLICATION SELECTION
The team at STI Florida knows that the options for synthetic turf applications can appear endless. When making your turf selection, consider things like face weight, pile height, tuft bind, and water permeability rate. All of these factors influence how your artificial grass will look, feel, drain, and its durability. The professionals at Synthetic Turf International of Florida will listen to what you’re looking for in your turf, and make sure that your selection is perfect for your environment, weather conditions, usage, and personal aesthetic.
INFILL
In addition to the heat, Florida summers are also known for evening thunderstorms. The turf system you choose must be accompanied by the proper infill and base materials to ensure proper drainage to adapt to local weather and rainfall patterns. An infill system will stabilize the turf and provide an even weight distribution across your entire application. Infill systems also help to minimize expansion and contraction due to temperature change.
Not sure what the proper infill option consists of? We suggest an infill consisting of silica sands that are round, sub-round, or sub-angular. Fun fact: There are infill options that help reduce turf temperatures. Additionally, there are also infill options which are infused with Microban antimicrobial protection, which helps to prevent the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew, and prevents stains, odors and product deterioration!
CONTRACTOR
Choosing an installer for artificial grass application is similar to choosing a contractor for any other home project (roofer, landscaper, plumber, etc.). You’ll want to hire a team of contractors who can be trusted, work for a well-established business, and are experts in their industry. They should comply with any and all federal, state, and local contracting laws, as well as work in-line with the Better Business Bureau and the licensing in your state. Another important factor to keep in mind is the importance of proper insurance! Nowadays, it is very common for turf companies to pop up and disappear just as fast, subbing out their installations so you never know what skill level will be showing up for your installation.
Not only should your contractor provide references for their recent work, but infill and turf samples should be provided as well. Although they should automatically be supplied, don’t be afraid to request shipping labels and bills of lading to verify the location of manufacturing. Your contractor should also provide you with a contract regarding the scope of work and the product you have agreed on and selected, warranty information, contact information, and a certificate of insurance exhibiting Worker’s Comp and General Liability Insurance.
When choosing Synthetic Turf International, you are ensuring your turf is Made in America, which means your products are free of harsh chemicals!
